Hi everyone, I’m finally back in the blogging business. I have been sick sick sick lately and not up to doing much. Although, if you’re a stay-at-home parent of young kids, you know that you can’t really take a sick day, and you still have to be “on” most of the time, preparing food, wiping bottoms… but I digress. You came here for a review, and it’s a two-parter.
After first tasting: I think the Sumatra may be the best Starbucks K-Cup yet. It has a full, complex flavor that is just plain delicious. If you have been around here before, you know that I particularly favor dark roasts that are smooth and have some sweetness to them. Usually, the more complex the better, although there are some exceptions.
After second tasting: I had the flu again this week (the second time in a month!), and I may have tried my second Sumatra before all my taste buds returned. It was still very good, but not as good as I remember that first cup being. I’m kicking myself for being impatient and waiting till I was totally better. I think my half & half is going bad, too. Sigh.
In conclusion, if you enjoy dark roasts that are rich but not harsh, this is one you should try. I have to say, I am a little hesitant about recommending Starbucks K-Cups to people because they are more expensive per cup than other K-Cups (often 90¢ to $1.00 each). That being said, Breakfast Blend and Sumatra may be worth it. Or, at the least, you could have them once a week as a treat.
P.S. I want to give a special thank you to Scott & Kristi for gifting me with the Sumatra K-Cups and many other delicious K-Cups on Christmas Day. You rock!
