As I’ve mentioned before, my tastes tend toward the medium or dark roasts, but I thought it was high time to review a light roast.
Green Mountain Breakfast Blend is mellow and smooth with a pleasant flavor but has a lingering finish (more on this later). The aroma and flavor remind me of coffee you would get at Denny’s or another breakfast place. This could be a good thing or bad thing depending on what you like.
My main complaint is the after-effect in your mouth–it gets coated with a film or residue. Other coffees do this as well, especially many decafs. I’m not sure why this is. Drinking this K-Cup with sugar would probably alleviate the film, but I only like cream in my coffee, so I guess I’ll never know.
I gave my father-in-law a couple of these to try, and he wasn’t very impressed. It was too weak for him. One of his staples is Green Mountain Nantucket, to give you an idea of his taste.
This brew is not for your get-up-and-go kind of day, but more for a lazy, relaxed Saturday. Or maybe as a second-cupper to round out your morning. All in all, not too bad. If you enjoy light roasts or even medium roasts like Coffee People’s Donut Shop, this would be a good one for you to try.
Yeah, it was kinda “eh” for me. I noticed the film with GM’s French Toast, too — in my mouth and in my cup. Strange!
I haven’t tried the French Toast yet. I have one and have been putting it off. I think I’ll put it off a little longer now. 🙂
Green Mountain Breakfast Blend is my main cup of coffee. I add sugar to it so I don’t notice the film taste you mention. I am surprised that your father in law preferred the Nantucket. I find them very similar in taste.
Thanks for your input, Vinny. Have you tried the Tully’s Breakfast Blend? That’s my favorite of the breakfast blend K-Cups I’ve tried so far.
I haven’t tried that one. When I run out of Breakfast blend I switch to Coffee People ‘s Donut shop kcups. You may want to try to give your father in law that one.
Yeah, I’m not sure he’s tried Donut Shop yet.
