It took a little while, but I eventually got my hands on some Dunkin’ Donuts K-Cups courtesy of my father-in-law after a recent trip to New York.
So here’s the gist if you don’t have time to read on: Dunkin’ Dark Roast, good. Original Blend, bad.
Actually, the Dunkin’ Dark is very good. So good, in fact, that I am gradually making my way through them and not sharing (well, my brother in Canada may get a sample…shhh).
Dunkin’ Dark Roast is complex, hearty, and has a rich, interesting flavor. No bad aftertaste here. Also, it’s really nice at the 10oz brew setting. I will miss drinking these when they’re all gone.
The Original Blend is just not good. It’s not “my cup of tea” …errr, coffee. The overriding flavors are sour and burnt. I detected some cinnamon notes but not till the very end of the cup. This is the worst of the donut-shop type K-Cups. Donut House, Donut Shop, and even Timothy’s Original Donut Blend are all better.
Do yourself a favor; go for the dark roast.
Note on Location: It’s a shame Dunkin’ Donuts is basically only selling its K-Cups in DD stores. However, you can also find them a few places online, like Addoway.com, for a boatload of money. You may see them pop up from time to time on KCupTrade as well.
