Confessions of a Non-Coffee Drinker

This is not a picture of me. Just some random picture I found on the internet. But I make this face a lot.

Hi there, I’m the husband of the K-Cup Barista and I’m hijacking her blog. (That’ll teach her to leave the computer lying around.) I appreciate the smell of coffee, but I’ve never gotten the hang of drinking the stuff. I tell you, I’m positively weird. I ran across a post the other day where someone was asking:

“Do any of you feel that when you see the ever popular Keurig, it makes you want to become a coffee drinker?… even when you know you hate it, because it tastes like wet cigarette ashes.”

That’s exactly how I feel. The other day my wife was sipping some Original Donut House Coffee (Coffee People) and it smelled great. Plus, the cover of the little K-Cups pack looks so good. So I snatched the mug out of her hand and slurped a little sip. It was terrible! It was so bitter it took about an hour to get that taste out of my mouth. Just reinforced how much I really don’t like coffee.

If a cup of coffee has lots of sugar and cream to cover up the coffee taste, I can sort of tolerate it, but if you have to cover it up, why are you even bothering in the first place?

So yes, I am non-coffee drinker who is married to a coffee F-A-N-A-T-I-C. It’s not so bad, though, because whenever she makes a cup of coffee,  there’s that nice aroma. And I really like the Keurig a lot. But I think I like it because I’m intrigued by the physics of it and how cool the K-Cups are. It has even managed to overcome my natural cheapness.

Despite my non-coffee ways, I love my wife so much. Sometimes she even makes me a Mocha and puts in heaps of whipped cream. So much, that I can’t really taste the coffee any more.

My boyfriend is also a non-coffee drinker, but he loves that I love my Keurig. He's the one who suggested I get one and while he hates the smell and taste of coffee, he puts up with my cooing and carrying on over new flavors I find or my incessant "purchase-trade-sell" of k-cups. Mazel to you for being a cool husband who supports his wife's habit. I mean, hobby. Hobby. *cough* Reply

What the Keurig needs is reloadable ammo. The ammo creates one cup per round so it wastes plastic and at a buck a round, not exactly cheap. At a Dunkin Donuts, a box of Keurig ammo (12 rounds) is $12 not including tax. Quick! If they ban large ammo clips, would a semiauto Keurig have to have a limit of a 10 K-Cup clip? Reply
